Braces Safe Thanksgiving Recipes
Posted on 11/13/2015

Now that we're approaching the Thanksgiving holiday, many of us are making plans to spend time with loved ones. This is a holiday most of us look forward to as there are many things to be thankful for and plenty of good food to enjoy. However for those of you in braces, this can be a difficult time as there are restrictions on what you can eat without damaging your braces and brackets. Luckily for you, your Methuen and North Andover Orthodontist has prepared some alternative options for you!

Even though you need to avoid some foods that can damage or break your braces, there are still plenty of foods you can enjoy. Here are a couple braces-friendly recipes to try that can be enjoyed by even your friends and family not wearing braces.

Easy Shepherd's Pie

This Shepherd's pie will keep your braces intact plus it's easy to make and very satisfying to eat!

Ingredients:

1 pound ground beef

1 box (20 oz) instant mashed potatoes ( 8 serving size)
2 cups frozen mixed vegetables

1 can (8oz) beef gravy

1 T garlic powder

¼ tsp salt

¼ tsp pepper

¼ tsp paprika

Directions:

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Prepare a medium sized casserole dish using vegetable oil spray. Prepare mashed potatoes following instructions on package. Cook and drain the frozen vegetables.

Brown ground beef with a bit of oil in skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic powder, salt, pepper and beef gravy and stir. Add the cooked vegetables and stir until well blended.  Remove from heat. Put the ground beef and vegetable mixture into the casserole dish and spread out evenly. Then add the mashed potatoes and spread out over beef/vegetable mix. Sprinkle with paprika and bake for 30 minutes or until lightly browned.

Savory Pumpkin Mousse Tarts

These pumpkin mousse tarts put a whole new spin on pumpkin pie! You can enjoy these tarts while everyone else is eating pecan pie and other sticky and gooey desserts.

1 cup pumpkin pie filling
